Metaphors vs our senses

Cicero, too, remarked on the visual aspect of metaphor:

Every metaphor, provided it be a good one, has a direct appeal to the senses, especially the sense of sight, which is the keenest … Metaphors drawn from the sense of sight are much more vivid, virtually placing within the range of our mental vision objects not actually visible to our sight.
