A property in which the physical characteristics of an object or environment Influence its function.
- An affordance is a relationship between the properties of an object and the capabilities of the agent that determine just how the object could possibly be used.
When the affordance of an object corresponds to it intended function, the design will perform more efficiently.
Examples:
- Round wheels for rolling. Stairs are for climbing.
- On the door, plate is to push and handle is to pull.
- With opposing male and female surfaces and featureless sides, Legos naturally afford plugging into one another.
